PAP President Hon. Bethel Nnaemeka Amadi
The Pan-African Parliament was established in March 2004, by Article 17 ofThe Constitutive Act of the African Union, as one of the nine Organs providedfor in the Treaty Establishing the African Economic Community signed in Abuja,Nigeria, in 1991.
The establishment of the Pan-African Parliament is informed by a vision toprovide a common platform for African peoples and their grass-rootsorganizations to be more involved in discussions and decision-making on theproblems and challenges facing the continent.
The seat of the Parliament is in Midrand, South Africa.
The Pan-African Parliamentarians represent all the peoples of Africa. Theultimate aim of the Pan-African Parliament is to evolve into an institutionwith full legislative powers, whose members are elected by universal adultsuffrage.
Theobjectives of the PAP
- Facilitate the effective implementation of the policies and objectives of the OAU/AEC and, ultimately, of the African Union;
- Promote the principles of human rights and democracy in Africa;
- Encourage good governance, transparency and accountability in Member States;
- Familiarize the peoples of Africa with the objectives and policies aimed at integrating the African continent within the framework of the establishment of the African Union;
- Promote peace, security and stability;
- Contribute to a more prosperous future for the people of Africa by promoting collective self-reliance and economic recovery;
- Facilitate cooperation and development in Africa
- Strengthen Continental solidarity and build a sense of common destiny among the peoples of Africa;
- Facilitate cooperation among Regional Economic Communities and their Parliamentary fora.

Opening of Book of Condolence for the late
Hon. Moussa Idriss Ndélé
The Pan-African Parliament would
like to announce the opening of a Book of Condolence for the late Hon.
Moussa Idriss Ndélé, the former President of the Pan-African Parliament
who passed away as a result of a road traffic accident in Ndjamena-Chad
on Sunday 19th May 2013.
The Book will be available in the
Lobby of the Administrative Block of the PAP in Gallagher Estate, 19
Richards Drive, Halfway House, Midrand, as of 09H00 on Thursday 23rd
May 2013.

PAP Shocked by
Death of its Former President Idriss Ndélé
Midrand, Johannesburg – The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) today was
shocked with the news of the untimely death of its former President
Hon. Moussa Idriss Ndélé, who perished in a motor vehicle accident in
the capital city of his native Chad yesterday evening. His wife, who
was with him at the time, survived the accident but remains in a
critical condition.
Hon. Ndélé was the second President of the PAP from May 2009 up to
May
2012 after Hon. Gertrude Mongella, and was succeeded by the current
President, Hon. Bethel Nnaemeka Amadi.
Hon. Ndélé, who was sixty (60) years old, was a dental surgeon by
profession and an activist in the area of family planning.
The President of the Republic of Chad, H.E. Idriss Deby Itno has
declared three days of national mourning.

Pan African Parliament (PAP), an organ of the
African Union, was established to ensure full participation of the
peoples of
Africa in governance and economic integration of the continent. PAP is
currently implementing a new organizational structure that was approved
by the
African Union at its 19th Assembly. To this end, it is
looking for exceptional individuals with extraordinary
skills, knowledge and competencies as well as track records of
delivering
excellent work in an international regional organizational setting.
Appointed
candidates will help shape and deliver the mandate of the Parliament.
